Hang ’em up

Ever since our girl has been big enough to wash her own hands, we’ve had a step stool in our half bathroom. The bathroom sits off the kitchen, so it’s a great spot for her to go and wash up before eating, or after a messy craft. However, our half bath isn’t very big and we had a hard time figuring out where to store the step stool so that it was out of the way for our guests.

While browsing the aisles of Homegoods one day, a light bulb went off. I knew I had seen the collapsible step stools in their organization and laundry section in the past. Sure enough there was a whole rack of them and I was able to grab one for $10 – perfect!

We moved the other step stool to her bathroom upstairs where it can stay in front of the sink.

So, there is this nook between the wall and the vanity that we had been resting the collapsed step stool in, which worked, but in such a small room it looked disorganized and like we had left it there by accident.

In order to make it look more intentional, I whipped out these bad boys:

and hung the step stool in the nook…

It worked beautifully…for a few days. Then the whole thing came crashing down. WTH command hooks? The step stool is not that heavy, I doubt it weighs more than 3lbs – although now I’m tempted to verify that. Thinking it could be a defective strip, I decided to try it again, but alas it came crashing down again. Maybe the surface of the vanity doesn’t grip well? I don’t know. But I do know that while it lasted, this was a great way to save space and make the bathroom more functional for us. So, now I’m on the hunt for a new hook that will screw into the side of the vanity – is it weird that I’m excited to look for hooks? It’s the little things…
